Aadhar (means Support) was our charity partner for the 2024 Gala. Aadhar is dedicated to promoting mental wellness, emotional wellbeing, reducing stigma, and providing accessible resources for individuals and families facing mental health challenges. Their mission is to foster a supportive community where everyone has the access to the available tools and opportunities to achieve optimal mental well-being.
Established in 2024 by Dr. Sejal Mehta, a practicing psychiatrist, Aadhar is a community-based non-profit organization that specializes in mental health wellness awareness and support. They cater to diverse populations, including children, adolescents, adults, and seniors, recognizing that mental health is a universal concern that transcends age, gender, culture, and socioeconomic status.
Silk Threads presented their sold-out 12th Annual Charity Gala with their Charity Partner Aadhar and their valued Sponsors for an exciting evening of fashion, entertainment and giving on Saturday December 7th, 2024. This Fashion Extravaganza was held at the Taxila Stone Showroom in Dallas, TX, with this year’s theme being “Timeless Textures”, highlighting the enchanting interplay of nature and fashion.
This exquisite event was designed to celebrate the rich tapestry of Indian designs inspired by nature, showcasing the intricate craftsmanship and sustainable practices that honor our environment.
December 7th turned out to be a cold and rainy day – but that did not stop the team including hair and makeup artists, models and volunteers working tirelessly since early morning to make sure everything was in place.
Just before the doors opened, the staff of the food sponsors Bombay Sweets and Delhi Lounge were seen setting up the hot food and the tandoor to make the appetizers. The fashion coordinators were doing their final practices with the models, the DJ was setup and there was a sense of electric chaos and excitement in the air.
Doors opened at 7 pm, and guests in their finest Indian formal/black-tie clothes started pouring in. With the staff passing out hors d’oeuvres, the bar tenders mixing drinks and the lounge music playing, the spirit was bright and cheerful compared to the dark and gloomy weather outside.
The program started with the MCs Michael Bauer and Shabnam Modgil giving an introduction to Aadhar, followed by real-life patient stories by Carol from NTBHA and Dr. Anu Wadhwa. After a short donation collection round for Aadhar, the Silk Threads Fashion Show started, featuring a curated collection for both men and women by celebrity fashion designer Archana Kochhar from Mumbai.
There were two segments of the Fashion Show – one featuring the “Real Celebrities” of Dallas, and the second with professional models. The sold-out crowd was very appreciative, with the models getting multiple rounds of applause.
The delicious dinner featuring Indian cuisine from The Delhi Lounge was available after the Fashion Show. The dance floor was also opened during dinner, where one of the top Dallas DJs DJ Carlos Costano and the fabulous Dholi TK, kept the party going till late in the night.
While we gathered in the spirit of philanthropy, we were successful in highlighting how fashion can be a powerful vehicle for change, weaving together the efforts of Aadhar with the giving nature of our community.
Here are the video highlights of the Gala…
We look forward to seeing you on November 1, 2025 for our 13th Annual Charity Gala!
